Who will Win the Sena(Uddhav) vs Sena(Shinde) Face-off?

assam maharashtra

Eknath Shinde, no.2 of Shiv Sena claimed to be having support of over 40 MLAs of which 37 are from Shiv Sena. They took shelter at a hotel in heavily flooded Assam and coincidentally welcomed by the chief minister of Assam who was at the same place. The rebel MLAs’ only problem is NCP and Congress being in power. You do the math who could be behind this powerplay.

Anyway since their arrival, they should take a trip of Assam. People will also know the situation in Assam. Northeast is flood prone and flood has become an annual thing, unfortunately. Assam got 62% above normal pre-monsoon rain this year. Floods have damaged over 1500 homes and 60,000 animals washed away. More than 50 lakh people have been affected. NDRF teams have been deployed by centre from Bhubaneswar but rescuing so many people won’t be easy.

On the other hand, a political flood has once again engulfed Maharashtra. Eknath Shinde wants Sena to ally with BJP again. That’d mean Uddhav Thackeray must resign as CM and welcome Fadnavis as CM, (which is why they could not allign before). To prevent that from happening, Shiv Sena will have to convince rebel MLAs. But Eknath Shinde is #2 and experienced having vast control over MLAs, which is not good news for Shiv Sena. Even if Uddhav Thackeray manages to save the current government, the image has already been dented.

Previously, Sharad Pawar had warned Uddhav of growing anxiety within Sena and coalition. So, lacklustre administration is probably the main reason why MLAs are rebelling. Uddhav Thackeray probably forgot about the coalition and acted beaurecratically. Shiv Sena’s attitude towards Modi government didn’t help either. Uddhav Thackeray government relationship with central Govt wasn’t working. Furthermore, Aditya Thackeray’s grooming as next gen leader perhaps did not sit well with Shinde.

What is the moral of the story for citizens? That politicians don’t care about people drowned by the flooding. This is a good reminder that they care about power alone. On one hand photos of worsening flood in Assam and on the other hand rebel politicians take shelter there. So only numbers matter in politics. Eknath Shinde claims to have the required number. Time will tell if that is true. The loser in this tussle is public of Maharashtra, of Assam and elsewhere that put politicians on pedestal they don’t deserve.
